Shaun of the Dead
From Britain comes another zombie movie, filled with love, gore, guns, gore, arguing, blunt objects, gore, and… humor?
Premise: 5/5
Shaun is a man trying to make his way in the world with his annoying friend Ed, and his hot, and normally understanding, girlfriend Liz. Of course, he has to go and screw things up with her, and do it at the same time the world is ending.
Despite being even more gorey than alot of “real” zombie movies, it piles on the humor, british style, and there are quite afew laughs in the film. In fact, the whole film is a laugh (as long as you enjoy that British wit), making numberous references to other zombie film’s cliche’s, and at the same time including relationship dynamics. There’s really nothing like it.
How you can not enjoy this sortof film even a bit is beyond me.
Cast: 5/5
The entire cast is excellent, playing their parts incredibly well, especially Shaun (Simon Pegg). They have an absolutely perfect dynamic, and Shaun comes off as one of the most believable characters in a film, probably in part because he’s your everyday nice guy. Liz is great as well, and who could forget Ed? Poor mum.
Special Effects & Cinematography: 5/5
Absolutely perfect for this type of film, which is a little on the extra gorey side. You will see people getting torn apart, among other things. Most things are taken to an extreme for comedic effect, but at the same time are not overdone.
Popcorn Factor: 4/5
Go for it. Just be warned, it is a British film, and the dialogue and humor reflects that. If you don’t like British comedy, you may not get some of the jokes, making it still entertaining, but less so. In my eyes it’s a great movie, filled with laughs, so it gets a 4 star from me.
